I'd heard really good things about Slate from some friends. I'd even checked out the menu before going. Unfortunately, I may have been building up the experience in my mind. The food was bland and definitely could have used more spice. In particular, the fettuccine alfredo had almost no flavor. The two other entrees we'd sampled (chicken parmesan and chicken marsala) were better, but still weren't mind-blowing. The service, perhaps more than the entrees, left something to be desired. Our appetizers came out less than a couple of minutes before out main course. With most restaurants, especially fine dining, I expect timing to be on point. We also had to ask for silverware, then spoons for our soups, then refills on our beverages. These all seemed like rookie mistakes. While I'm willing to give Slate another shot, I'm just hoping my experience was just an "off night."
Great atmosphere and great service. Shrimp Alfredo was very good and so was the tiramisu and chocolate mousse. Highly recommend for a cheaper Italian style meal! Also, they have a great wine selection and several house special cocktails.
The service was okay. I ordered the shrimp scampi and the white wine butter sauce was burnt and brown. And tasted like burnt butter with a drop of wine. I had to go inside to get salt and pepper (I was seated on the patio. Won’t be back and won’t recommend. For $20 I should have just cooked it at home.
We went out to eat here the other day. The waitress we had was top notch! The atmosphere is excellent. And the cleanliness was great. My mate had a meatball marinara which he said was good. The Chicken Marsala, however, was poorly prepared. The sauce which should be gravy like in consistency was water runny. Little to no butter was used in making the sauce and overall it was too sweet. I say this as a former certified chef with a degree. If you go pass on this dish. Very disappointing.
While the people serving were nice, the service was extraordinarily slow. Our waitress came (late) to take our order and had forgotten her notebook. It took her a good 10 minutes to find us again. The pasta was terribly gummy. Frankly it was some of the worst pasta I had ever had. The atmosphere and the restaurant were very nice. Overall I would recommend looking for some other place for a good Italian food.
